La Roulotte

This portrait was inspired by a 1950's photograph of my maternal grandmother, who died before I was born. Which might be why I'm fascinated by pictures of her, trying to piece together who she was. In this artwork she's sat in front of the food trailer my grandparents were running on weekends, to make ends meet.

The sharpness of the acrylic gouache background makes the pencil drawing of the figure look slightly hazy, alluding to my quest to put together a clear image of who my grandmother was.

Pencil and acrylic gouache on paper.
29,7 cm x 21 cm

Drawn for pleasure.
